St. Joseph Youth Club

Congratulations! You’ve just found the most exciting Youth Club to ever exist! The St. Joseph Youth Club was formed in August of 2007 and is open to all high school students. The large growth our parish has enjoyed over the past few years has also resulted in the growth of our young-person population and thus the need for the formation of our Youth Club. The Youth Club provides an avenue for these young men and women to meet one another and to put some fun into our faith while getting to know ourselves and our God a little better.

All of our adult sponsors have met the requirements of the Catholic Church in order to work with the youth of our parish. We currently have six sponsors, including our spiritual advisor Deacon Herb Vance. On occasion we have had to enlist help from other parishioners with transporation and supervision, all of whom have also met the Catholic Church requirements in order to work with young people.

Our meetings are held from September through May on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month from 6:30 to 8 pm in the stage area of the parish hall. Scheduling our meetings in this way allows us to have time for other things during the month. For example, every month we have at least one fundraiser, we attend at least one community service event, and every month we plan an activity that’s just for fun. During the summer months, we continue our fun, our fundraising and also our community projects but we do, however, suspend our monthly meetings for the summer months of June, July and August.

In just our first year alone, we have had quite a few fundraisers: They have included:

  Rigatoni Suppers
Car Washes
Recycling Electronics
Working Concessions at Concerts/Events
Sales of Religious Bracelets and Rosaries
Serving and Cleaning-up of various dinners held in the parish hall

Some of our Community Service projects have included working with:

  Hot Dogs For Homeless
St. Vincent de Paul
St. Joseph Social and Charitable Club PBJ Sandwich Making Ministry
Birth Choice Life Walk
Karina Juarez Fundraiser/Walk

Some of our outings have included:

  Hiking in the Wichita Mountains
Overnight “camping” at Guthrie
Eating out in Bricktown as a group
Rowing dragon boats on the Oklahoma River
Walking downtown to a Blazers hockey game
Holy City Passion Play (who can forget that frigid night?)
Friends Day (both Downtown in December and Laser Quest)
Whitewater rafting
Hiking with llamas
Volleyball tournament with other Catholic Youth Groups
OKC Zoo
Movies at Harkins
Arts and Crafts

We also keep our students up to date on other things going on in other areas of their lives:

ACT test dates and registration deadlines
CPR courses
General information of what’s happening in town

We also highlight Holy Days and help our young people to better understand these special feast days that occur throughout the Catholic liturgical year so that they may grow to have a deeper understanding of our Catholic faith.

We would not be able to continue these activities and continue to provide this environment to the young men and women of our parish without the support of our parishioners. As you can see, we have accomplished much our first year. We have a vibrant and very high-profile and active Youth Club which would not survive without your continued support. We are truly grateful to everyone in this parish who has helped us by attending our fundraisers and for those who have given us monetary donations throughout the past year. We have been truly blessed and we in the Youth Club feel the presence of the Holy Spirit working among us and guiding us in our endeavors.

Pope John Paul II once said, "If indeed it takes an entire village to raise a child, then it certainly takes an entire church to journey with young people as they grapple with the Good News and respond in discipleship.” We in the Youth Club are committed to this journey and ask you to keep the Youth Club in your prayers as we continue to light the way for our leaders of tomorrow.

May God continue to abundantly bless this parish and its members.
