St. Joseph Old Cathedral Altar Society
|
| |
| The Altar Society serves as both a social organization, as well as maintaining liturgical items and supporting the purchase of liturgical needs through fundraising efforts. We purchase for the church liturgical supplies, Altar flowers, Altar wine, Altar bread and other miscellaneous items. All women of the Parish are considered members of the Altar Society. There are approximately 65 dues-paying members of the Altar Society. Dues are $5 year. Altar Society holds various fundraisers throughout the year such as bake sales, collections for Altar wine and Altar flowers and BC Clark church coupon. Altar Society, specifically Linda Connally, coordinates the flowers throughout the year on the Altar. You can sign up in the back of the church if you would like to sponsor the flowers for a special occasion such as a wedding anniversary, birthday or whatever. Altar Society is very active and new members are welcome to join. |

ST. JOSEPH OLD CATHEDRAL
SOCIAL AND CHARITABLE CLUB
|
| |
| St. Joseph’s Social and Charitable Club has been in existence for more than 30 years and was formerly known as the Men’s Club. |
| |
| The Mission of the St. Joseph’s Social and Charitable Club is to: |
| |
| |
- assist the Church in its endeavors to provide sustenance to the poor and needy.
|
- promote and provide support to parishioners, both spiritual and economic.
|
- advance the fellowship of its parishioners.
|
|
|
| |
| The Social and Charitable Club meets on the fourth Sunday every month after the 10:00 a.m. Mass in the Parish kitchen to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the homeless. Volunteers are welcome to join in this lively sandwich-making activity. |
| |
| The Club also collects food, personal items, and school supplies from parishioners every month and distributes these items to local charitable agencies serving the poor and the homeless. Items to be donated can be placed in the wooden box at the back of the church. The monthly schedule of collection items includes: |
| |
| |
January – Canned Meats
February – Pork & Beans
March – Canned Vegetables
April – Cereal
May – Cookies and Crackers
June – Toiletries
July – School Supplies
August – Canned Fruit & Jello
September – Cereal
October – Macaroni & Cheese
November – Soup
December – Baby food & Supplies |
|
| |
One of the highlights of the Social and Charitable Club calendar is our annual Christmas Giving Tree for needy children and adults. Generous parishioners provide the gifts and the Club handles the wrapping and distribution. The Club also provides Christmas food baskets for needy individuals in our parish. Funds for the baskets are raised during the year through raffles, silent basket auction, and private donations.
To promote fellowship, the Social and Charitable Club hosts an annual St. Joseph Day luncheon, cooks a traditional Octoberfest breakfast and provides coffee and donuts to parishioners after masses twice a month.
In recent years the Club has adopted our military parishioners who are serving in Afghanistan and Iraq by sending them cards, toiletries, snacks, and telephone cards.
|
|
Annual dues for the Social and Charitable Club are $5.00. The Club’s 2008-2009 Officers are:
|
| |
| |
Stan Williamson, President
Carolyn Woods, Vice President
Evelina Morales, Secretary
Linda Hinton and Molly Bernard, Co-Treasurers |
|
|
|
Volunteer opportunities are available with the Social and Charitable Club, and it’s a great way to meet parishioners. If you would like more information about this Club’s activities, please call Molly Bernard at 405-840-4119.
Monetary donations are also welcome and help the Club carry out its many activities. Checks can be made out to St. Joseph Old Cathedral Social and Charitable Club and sent to the Church office or placed in the secure small box in the larger wooden box at the back of the Church.
We invite you to get involved and make a difference! |

St. Joseph Youth Club
|
|
For more information about our monthly events, please visit our Website at www.inthenameof.com
|
Congratulations! You’ve just found the most exciting Youth Club to ever exist! The St. Joseph Youth Club was formed in August of 2007 and is open to all high school students. The large growth our parish has enjoyed over the past few years has also resulted in the growth of our young-person population and thus the need for the formation of our Youth Club. The Youth Club provides an avenue for these young men and women to meet one another and to put some fun into our faith while getting to know ourselves and our God a little better.
All of our adult sponsors have met the requirements of the Catholic Church in order to work with the youth of our parish. We currently hae six sponsors, including our spiritual advisor Deacon Herb Vance. On occasion we have had to enlist help from other parishioners, with transportation and supervision, all of whom have also met the Catholic Church requirements in order to work with young people.
Our meetings are held from September through May on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month from 6:30 to 8 pm in the stage area of the parish hall. Scheduling our meetings in this way allows us to have time for other things during the month. For example, every month we have at least one fundraiser, we attend at least one community service event, and every month we plan an activity that’s just for fun. During the summer months, we continue our fun, our fundraising and also our community projects but we do, however, suspend our monthly meetings for the summer months of June, July and August. |
| |
|
In just our first year alone, we have had quite a few fundraisers: They have included:
|
| |
| |
Rigatoni Suppers
Car Washes
Recycling Electronics
Working Concessions at Concerts/Events
Sales of Religious Bracelets and Rosaries
Serving and Cleaning-up of various dinners held in the parish hall |
|
| |
| Some of our Community Service projects have included working with: |
| |
| |
Hot Dogs For Homeless
St. Vincent de Paul
St. Joseph Social and Charitable Club PBJ Sandwich Making Ministry
Birth Choice Life Walk
Karina Juarez Fundraiser/Walk |
|
| |
| And we are certainly not lacking in the “fun” department. Some of our outings have included: |
| |
| |
Hiking in the Wichita Mountains
Overnight “camping” at Guthrie
Eating out in Bricktown as a group
Rowing dragon boats on the Oklahoma River
Walking downtown to a Blazers hockey game
Holy City Passion Play (who can forget that frigid night?)
Friends Day (both Downtown in December and Laser Quest)
Whitewater rafting
Hiking with llamas
Volleyball tournament with other Catholic Youth Groups
OKC Zoo
Movies at Harkins
Arts and Crafts |
|
| |
|
| We also keep our students up to date on other things going on in other areas of their lives: |
| |
| |
ACT test dates and registration deadlines
CPR courses
General information of what’s happening in town |
|
| |
We also highlight Holy Days and help our young people to better understand these special feast days that occur throughout the Catholic liturgical year so that they may grow to have a deeper understanding of our Catholic faith.
We would not be able to continue these activities and continue to provide this environment to the young men and women of our parish without the support of our parishioners. As you can see, we have accomplished much our first year. We have a vibrant and very high-profile and active Youth Club which would not survive without your continued support. We are truly grateful to everyone in this parish who has helped us by attending our fundraisers and for those who have given us monetary donations throughout the past year. We have been truly blessed and we in the Youth Club feel the presence of the Holy Spirit working among us and guiding us in our endeavors.
If indeed it takes an entire village to raise a child, then it certainly takes an entire church to journey with young people as they grapple with the Good News and respond in discipleship.” We in the Youth Club are committed to this journey and ask you to keep the Youth Club in your prayers as we continue to light the way for our leaders of tomorrow.
May God continue to abundantly bless this parish and its members. |
